From Mustard to Custard | SS13 Bright Trends

By  |

The sun may still be in hiding but take your look from strength to strength as bright colours just got bolder for Spring/Summer 2013. The yellow hues have gone off the chart this season- think sunshine, fluffy baby chicks and everything from custard to mustard

Take a leaf from the FROWers at Fashion Week; In Milan, trendsetter and fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni wore a mustard Gucci coat and clutch to the Gucci A/W 13 show. During London Fashion Week, MTV presenter Laura Whitmore was spotted front row pulling off a divine gown at Maria Grachvogel. Other inspiration came from Victoria Secret model, Miranda Kerr, who made an appearance in a sublime casual/chic attire and a yellow blazer by Stella McCartney (inspiring several outfits for the office this spring) back in January. And back in December, we saw fashion-forward model Lily Aldridge, quick to grab two trends in one, as she combined leather pants with a pleated yellow Alexander Wang blouse.

Straight off the catwalk in ready-to-wear pieces from Oscar de la Renta to Alice+Olivia and Michael Kors, this look is sleek and grown up. My personal favourite of the trends looks this season was spotted at the Kate Spade show – predominantly yellow with her classic minimal designs. Focusing on pattern and texture she created pieces that can be playfully dressed up or down for any occasion.

WWIB-Shop-Trend-Spring-2013-Yellow2Want to wear this trend? Here’s some tips: Try this Michael Kors wool crepe Jacket,( £1400) as an outerwear. Make a day-to-night statement in this yellow Jimmy Choo perforated sandals (£650), to add pops of colour to an otherwise basic outfit. For an head to toe mustard look, I recommend this Stella McCartney fringed lace dress (£1,560). Cheaper alternatives are available also, like this Tibi dress, perfect for a Michael Kors inspired look. Topshop has a purse-friendly version in the form of this mustard coloured brocade cut-out dress for just £59. Or rival Miranda Kerr in this Toshop blazer, for only £195.

Even though I live in the Southern Hemisphere, I can see the mustard trend being embraced with black for winter. It’s great to see such a fab Colour palette on trend again.
