New style icon alert|Oh Land
Possessing the kind of naturally blond, wide-eyed, high-cheekboned beauty that one could probably only replicate via some kind of stem cell procedure, Norwegian singer Oh Land really is ridiculously attractive. She also has a voice as sweet as syrup and does a line in shimmery electro that is pop enough to please MTV but cool enough to allow hipsters to blog about her guilt-free. Sickening isn’t it? On the other hand, fashion wise she has a style that is pleasingly copycat-able. A distant relative of the ‘kinderwhore’ look pioneered by Courtney Love in the early nineties, Land shares that love of combining cutesie baby pink – case in point, the video for ‘new single ‘Sun of a gun’ – with lots of gothic lace and velvet in any colour as long as it’s black.
My favourite recent outfit of Oh’s has to be the one she sported at the New York party to launch James Franco’s book of short stories (that’s right, yet another reason to be jealous, she’s hanging out in all the right places). Urban Outfitters has a cute oversized handprint tee, and it’s currently on offer, reduced from £32 to just £9.99. Add a black miniskirt, Miss Selfridge black velvet leggings (£22) and a pair of Brian Atwood pink suede booties (258.75 from TheOutnet.com) and you’ve got yourself a pretty good Oh Land style steal. What do you think of Oh’s style?
